Upload Website Files Safely with cPanel File Manager Print

  • 0

Use this guide to upload a static site or a reviewed website patch to an AnyKey account with cPanel. A patch should be merged into the correct site folder.

Find the right folder

Open File Manager in cPanel. Check the domain's document root; an additional domain or development site may use a different folder from the primary site's public_html. Do not guess from the folder name alone.

Upload and verify

  1. Download a backup of files that will be replaced. Record the destination path.
  2. Upload the trusted archive, then inspect its contents before extraction.
  3. Extract in a temporary folder when the archive contains documentation or an UPLOAD folder. Move only the intended website files into the destination.
  4. Merge matching folders and overwrite only the intended files. Do not replace an entire site with a partial patch.
  5. Load the affected pages and check images, styles, navigation and forms.
  6. Remove uploaded archives and temporary copies from the public directory once verification is complete.

Use Settings → Show Hidden Files when a reviewed change includes a file such as .htaccess. Keep a backup before editing it. If the page breaks, restore the changed files and send AnyKey support the affected URL and error.
