What to Do When WordPress Reports a Critical Error Print

  • 0

A critical error can follow an incompatible plugin, theme or other PHP problem. Start by recording the time and the last change rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

Try Recovery Mode

Check the site's administrator mailbox for a WordPress recovery email. When available, its private link can open Recovery Mode and help identify the component that failed. Keep this link private. WordPress may not send a recovery message for every kind of failure.

Make a controlled recovery

  1. Take a backup of the current files and database if possible.
  2. If Recovery Mode identifies a plugin or theme, disable the affected component while reviewing its update or compatibility requirements.
  3. Test the website and administrator area before re-enabling anything.
  4. If you cannot access the administrator area, ask AnyKey support for help checking the server error log and safely isolating the component.

Do not delete plugins, overwrite the database or publish debug logs containing credentials as a first response. Give support your domain, the exact error, recent updates and whether Recovery Mode was available. Keep a working backup until the issue is resolved.
