What a transfer does
A domain transfer moves the management of your .SX domain from your current registrar to AnyKey SX. You stay the owner: the transfer does not change who the domain belongs to, and your website and email keep working as long as your nameservers stay the same. A transfer also adds one year to your registration.
Check that your domain can be transferred
The .SX registry does not allow a transfer when:
- the domain was registered or transferred less than 60 days ago;
- the domain has expired and is in its redemption period, or is pending deletion;
- the domain is locked at your current registrar.
If your domain is close to expiry, renew it or transfer it early. A transfer during the grace period after expiry is possible, but leaving it late adds risk.
Step 1: Unlock the domain
Log in to your current registrar and look for a setting called transfer lock, registrar lock or domain lock. Turn it off. Some registrars do this for you when you ask for the transfer code.
Step 2: Get the authorization (EPP) code
Ask your current registrar for the domain's authorization code, also called an EPP code or auth code. It works like a password for the transfer, so keep it private.
Step 3: Write down your nameservers
Note the nameservers your domain uses today. If they belong to your web host (rather than to your old registrar), your website and email will keep working through the transfer. If your DNS is hosted by the old registrar, copy your DNS records first, so they can be set up again after the move.
Step 4: Start the transfer at AnyKey SX
Go to our domain transfer page, enter your .SX domain and the authorization code, and complete checkout. The transfer fee is $20.00 USD and includes a one-year extension of your registration.
Step 5: Approve and wait
Approve any confirmation email from your old registrar if they send one. Once the registry completes the transfer, the domain appears in your AnyKey client area, where you can manage nameservers, contacts and renewals.
After the transfer
- Check your nameservers and DNS. If anything needs changing, see our guide on pointing a .SX domain to your website.
- Turn on auto-renew so the domain never expires by accident.
- Enjoy free WHOIS privacy: .SX domains at AnyKey SX are kept private at the registry at no extra cost.
Common transfer problems
"The authorization code is invalid"
Copy the code again without spaces, or ask your old registrar for a new one. Codes can expire or be reset.
"The domain is not eligible for transfer"
The domain is probably locked, was moved in the last 60 days, or has expired. Check with your current registrar.
My website stopped working
This usually means the DNS was hosted at the old registrar. Set the nameservers or DNS records again in your client area, or contact us and we will help.
